Brockway teams up with Wools of New Zealand for new Laneve carpet at Domotex
15 December 2011
Kidderminster’s Brockway Carpets has once again teamed up with Wools of New Zealand to produce a concept carpet showcasing the potential of eco-friendly Laneve™ wool.
The carpet, called Fantasia, will be seen for the first time on the WNZ stand – B12 in hall 5 – at January’s Domotex show in Hannover.
The carpet is a neo-natural tweed incorporating four colours: Raven, Buckskin, Lint and Luna, in two 3-ply 100% Laneve™ stipple yarns, resulting in a contemporary marled broadloom product.
Brockway has also used the yarn in combination with the four plain yarns to create an inspirational co-ordinating stripe.
The concept was developed at Wools of New Zealand’s Centre of Excellence in Ilkley, and the carpet manufactured by Brockway at its Kidderminster factory. Brockway’s managing director Charles Annable believes that the collaboration of leading-edge design with the company’s British manufacturing expertise is creating a stir with its retailers and customers.
“Since the launched of our Vogue range and Designer Collection over the past few years we’ve found a real appetite for ‘carpets with a edge’ – something a bit different from the norm,” he said.
“Our working relationship with Wools of New Zealand’s Centre of Excellence has proved incredibly successful and we’re delighted to be pushing this even further with another stunning concept for Domotex.”
Wools of New Zealand’s Joanna Ramsden, who designed the new carpet, said:
“Fantasia offers the consumer a new direction for fashionable stripes and coordinating carpet. By combining plain shades with a creative marled yarn , the stripes and stippled broadloom give a multi-textured tweed with a ‘neo-natural edge’.
“The colours of Fantasia reflect the trend towards a mellowing of the monochrome look. Black remains a dramatic accent but when combined with new shades of vintage white, a blue cast charcoal, a silver grey and a subtle herbal green makes a stunning carpet with a natural and contemporary twist for the floor.
“It’s an approach that can be interpreted in many ways, not least by blending wool with other fibres for both traditional, comforting and glamorous effects – the concept holds lots of exciting possibilities.”
“Brockway are a perfect match for Wools of New Zealand to promote the potential of Laneve™ wool in carpets,” added David Hammond, European Market Manager for Wools of New Zealand.
“Brockway’s design- and eco-conscious customer base coupled with the company’s proactive approach and willingness to diversify makes them an ideal partner. Like us, they appreciate that the market won’t stand still and are continually looking to develop innovative new products. Fantasia is the latest example of this line of thought.”
Laneve™ is a companion to the Wools of New Zealand brand, going beyond product quality to attest to the sustainability and traceability of the wool itself. Laneve™ branded products are made from 100% wool and provide assurance of animal welfare, with strict codes of practice covering animal health, nutrition and safety, land management and non-intensive farming practice. Wools of New Zealand is working with around 30 partners in the in the US and Europe to build the Laneve™ brand around the world.
