Give your hallway the wow factor to ensure guests are impressed from the minute they walk into your home.

With the hallway being the first room you see when stepping into a home, it’s essential to set the tone and create a lasting impression. These often forgotten and ignored spaces are the perfect place to lay a carpet or runner to instantly add texture and interest.

Joanna Ramsden, Brockway Creative Director, shares her top tips for making the most of your hallway.

The hallway is often a forgotten space in the home, but it should be somewhere that looks inviting to guests – after all, first impressions are very important! In terms of colour and pattern, neutral lighter shades such as on trend greys and off-whites are particularly effective for opening up narrow spaces as they reflect natural daylight. However if you dare to be different, bold colourful stripes are great for elongating a smaller space and make an attention grabbing statement to transform the, once unloved, hallway into a space that is welcoming and exciting.

Add interest to a neutral hallway with a herringbone runner to create a feeling of lightness and warmth, introduce colour with leafy house plants  to ensure a welcoming feeling for guests entering your home.

Stripes into the hallway will instantly change the shape and feel of a space. They are perfect for creating the illusion of a longer and wider area where space is often not a premium.
